Alright friends, I need your advice! I am making some big changes and want to make sure they are the right ones. Who better to ask than all of you?! So, I am expecting some comments on this post…or else!
First of all, I am not happy with the company I currently purchase my frames from. Many have been shipped to me damaged, not due to the shipper, but because they were put together poorly. And I have ordered matting from them where the color all of a sudden is significantly different from what it used to be. They have no rhyme or reason as to why that is and can’t do anything about it. You can’t offer a color of matting and then just change the shade on that color one day. Ridiculous. Can you tell I’m frustrated? Not to mention, half of the time the styrene (plexiglass) is all scratched up when I receive it and I constantly have to replace it. But in the end, I see all of these problems as a blessing! I finally reached the breaking point with this company and decided to explore other options. Now, the other options weren’t looking good at first. Frames are expensive. No joke. But, I was looking in the wrong place….
Going forward, I want to provide you with a frame made by someone like me. Someone who is running a homemade business and has a great quality product. I want the frames to be modern, stylish and unique. I don’t want boring old frames you can find at the next department store down the street that end up falling apart. I want frames that are sturdy and will last for generations. Afterall, your letter art photography is special and unique and deserves to be passed down as an heirloom. Now, I’m sure you think this is all great, but how much is this going to cost? Good question. I’m not entirely sure yet. It’s looks I might have 3 different pricing tiers. One that’s very close to the current pricing, and then some prices that gradually go up from there, but very comparable to my competition. The competition doesn’t have handmade and unique frames, though. Not any that I can find. Which brings me to my next point…
I want to stand out from the others. I want to be a leader in the Letter Art Photography business and create new ideas that nobody else is offering you. So, what do you think of this:
*I have 3 or 4 vendors in mind, 2 of which I am 90% sure of. I just can’t decide on what frames to order! Do I only offer a few options so I can easily keep them in stock? Or do I offer a huge variety and keep going with custom orders? Or a mix of both…keep popular ones in stock and the others you wait for?
**I know what styles of frames I’m going for, but I don’t know what colors. I want to have the staples…black, espresso brown, white, of course. But, I also want to offer a vintage blue and then there’s pink and purple and green and so on! Do you want all those colors?? Do you want all those colors in every different style of frame? Do you like the distressed look? I think that’s the look I am going for! And what do you think of a special higher priced DOUBLE frame that has a cute handpainted pattern on it?
***What do you think of embellishments on your pictures? Picture a vintage blue frame with a white mat spelling out your name in black and white, with a cute coordinating fabric flower on the bottom corner of your mat. Or a line of hand dyed vintage crocheted doily trimmings. Or a ruffle in an irresistable fabric or romantic lace. Can you picture it? What do you think?
Alright, so now that I poured my heart out to you and showed you my 2011 aspirations….advice please! Really, what do you want from me? I’d like to hear it. Is price more of a factor than I think? And with all this being said, if you want your picture with a current frame that I offer, get it while it’s still here! I will be offering some great discounts on the ones I have in stock soon!
